Activities in Connemara

Emlaghmore Lodge is ideally placed for anyone wishing to enjoy and Activity Holiday in Connemara. All of the following activities are within easy driving distance of the Lodge and Cottage and are sure to make your vacation an enjoyable experience.

Bird Watching

Unusual species include Chough, Raven, Merlin, Peregrine and numerous waders.

Fishing

Deep Sea Fishing - from Roundstone and Clifden including Shark and Tuna fishing.
Game Fishing - as well as the fishery at Emlaghmore, there are a number of Sea Trout and Salmon Fisheries in the neighbourhood. The great Brown Trout Lakes of Corrib and Mask are slightly further afield but well worth it for a superb day's fishing.
Shore fishing - there are many locations all along the coast. Learn more about fishing in the area
Island Hopping - Trips by boat to the nearer islands or by boat or plane to the Aran Islands to explore a unique island culture

Golf

There is a very good 27 hole Championship links golf course at Ballyconneely. The Connemara Golf Club with bar and restaurant is open to visitiors. Clubs and buggies may be hired and tuition is provided.

Painting

The constantly changing colours are a source of delight to artists and photographers. There are several art galleries and some well known artists live in the area.

Horse Riding & Pony Trekking

From an hours lesson to a 50 mile trek with riding on the beach. The famous Connemara Trail goes right past both the Lodge and self-catering cottage and beginners as well as the experienced are catered for.

Sailing & Boat Trips

Clifden Sailing Club or Traditional Galway Hookers in Roundstone. For wet weather, a boat with restaurant and bar enclosed in glass, cruises the Killary Ford.

Swimming

For the brave.The Gulf Stream is not so warm when it reaches here.

Walking & Hill Walking

Climb the Twelve Pins of Connemara or walk across miles of moorland and hills. Maps show specific walks or you can take a guide or go alone.

Windsurfing, Surfing & Scuba Diving

Equipment may be hired and tuition is available.
