Connemara Landscape
Emlaghmore
Lodge is a few hundred yards from the coast road, beyond which lies
the Altantic shoreline. The coast stretches out to Slyne Head, which
is the most westerly point of this part of Ireland. There are numerous
small sandy beaches to stroll along and you can see seals and sometimes
Dolphins.
Apart from some isolated rocks and islands, some of which have
the remains of Christian settlements over 1000 years old, the next
stop across the sea is America.
To
the front of Emlaghmore Lodge is a small river, which leads to Roundstone
Bog. This is an area of moorland and lakes, which has been designated
a Special Area of Conservation because of its rare plants, birds
and mammals. Beyond this lies the range of mountains known as the
Twelve Pins.
With such a wealth of unspoiled habitats on our doorstep guests
can sometimes meet an otter or a kingfisher right in front of the
house, and badgers often come out of the wood at night to dig up
the garden! Emlaghmore is set amidst a paradise for nature lovers.
All Emlaghmore's rooms have wonderful views of mountains, lake,
river or sea.
